Skin Tips for Rosacea

Skin Tips for Rosacea

We're closing our Acne Awareness Month (April) with some very important skin tips for Rosacea. The most important thing to remember when it comes to Rosacea is that it’s something that can’t be “cured” (same with acne) but it can be controlled.

Rosacea is best treated holistically, but having an esthetician who specializes in treating acne & rosacea truly is the cherry on top to achieving the skin of your dreams 🍒

For me my biggest triggers are caffeine, spicy foods & red sauce. Again, I don’t completely deprive myself of these things, but I have definitely cut back my consumption in order to address the root cause of my flare ups.

1. Focus on Gut Health (the one most often overlooked)

When you address the root cause of your inflammation, dramatic changes happen in the best way. Since Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition that stems form gut health, I always advise clients to take probiotics, and simply make them aware of common Rosacea triggering foods. (Caffeine, spicy food, alcohol, dairy, acidic foods, etc.)

2. When it comes to skincare, focus on barrier supporting ingredients!

Such as: Antioxidants, hydrators, humectants and ceramides. Avoid harsh physical scrubs when it comes to exfoliation and opt for more gentle enzymes/chemical exfoliators. When our skin is inflamed, the last thing we want to do is add fuel to the fire.

3. When it comes to lifestyle habits, understand that rosacea thrives in heat!

Make sure you are limiting time in the sauna and jacuzzi and washing your face with cool water vs. hot. Rosacea thrives in hot/humid climates. While it may be inevitable at times avoiding the scorching temperatures, make sure you make time to cool off. Bring a neck from fan, hydrating mist, sunscreen, and water bottle with you daily if possible.
